In a perfect decor world, inventory would flow on a “FIFO” basis. The “first (piece) in” would be the “first out”. To the retailers dismay most customers are wowed by the new stuff, hence product often flows on a LIFO (last in first out) basis.
A savvy customer recognizes that smart retailers will discount the old stock to make room for new, just to be sure that their showroom never looks “tired”.
