It’s hard to find attractive kiddy friendly coffee tables. Constraining your selection to those without sharp corners or glass tops reduces potential finds. Sure, round tempered glass is fine but you’ll hate those gooey little telltale fingerprints that reveal your secret aversion to cleaning way too often. An attractive alternative is a reclaimed wood top like the one above in a unique “lozenge” shape. Kids would have a hard time killing this time-worn look as it is pre-distressed. Furthermore the campaign style iron base is handy for steadying wobbly toddlers.
When Port Hope’s summer sale took place on the closed “street”, they called it the “Summer Sidewalk Sale”. Since it’s actually on the “sidewalk” this year, it follows that the “real deals” will be lurking inside the stores.
The important thing to note is that Glam Vintage & Moderne has up to 50% off on lots of great home decor and …”lean in”…it’s not seasonal stuff. There are discontinued draperies and vintage and modern art that can adorn your interior space at any time of the year.
This recent weather blip doesn’t have to bring you down. You can use these shut-in days to do something other than barbecue and eat the thawed contents of your freezer and drink your wine cellar. Your WiFi may be down and your electricity may be intermittent, but planning projects and creating goals for 2014 can be done the old-fashioned way.
Glam Vintage & Moderne’s Window January 2014
Richard’s store window tells the story. You can thank ice loaded falling branches for this break from the entrapment of technology and the time to actually browse through magazines, fabric samples and wallpaper books for inspiration.
Port Hope’s Sidewalk Sale July 19 & 20th 2013 (pic taken last year, even better stuff this year)
True deal finders know that the early bird gets the “best stuff cheap”. Tomorrow (Friday) is the first day of Port Hope’s annual sidewalk sale. It’s on for Saturday too, but lets face it…the smart shoppers will show up Friday morning and “steal” the deals. Glam’s got vintage treasures, furniture, lighting and discontinued drapery panels.
Glam Vintage & Moderne is also including the HST and regular priced merchandise. So if you can’t get there for the serious bargains you can casually stroll through the store anytime on Friday or Saturday and save the tax…the price IS the price.
All this AND a perfect weather forecast. Sounds like a perfect Friday for a day off. Start thinking about your exit strategy now…I heard stomach flu is going around.
Glam Vintage & Moderne’s store interior is truly eye-candy. Since it doesn’t look like we are going to be doing much patio lounging this summer, I suggest you familiarize yourself with this cozy indoor space.

Snuggle up on a sofa and chose from over 2000 fabrics for your new drapery, couch or chairs. Bring pictures and get a free in store consultation from Richard and meet the staff Catherine & Alissa.
And you thought you’d have to waste more time looking at on-line shoe sites again today.
Having owned a gift store I’ve met many collectors of animal related paraphernalia. There are the elephant collectors who are most probably spiritual on the road to enlightenment but not beyond collecting a meaningful knick knack along the way. The pig collectors probably have too many banks in their stash and have to like pink…which I abhor in decor. Doggy people want their breed which one never seems to have in stock.
Magnificent Chinese Resin Horse in Silver Leaf at Glam Vintage & Moderne
Horse collectors’ acquisitions are in a league of their own. Throughout history horses have always been linked to nobility. On trend “English Manor” styling is chock full of equestrian related art objects. This reproduction of an ancient Chinese horse stands a stately 22 inches tall -16 inches to its withers – about 4 hands (couldn’t resist).
In feng shui “a horse figurine placed in the South corner activates recognition, fame and promotion for members of the household bringing renown and respect, particularly to the women of the household.” I know exactly where I’ll put it.
