Antique Walnut Sideboard at Glam Vintage & Moderne
Most sideboards command attention. Usually they are very large, counter height and obtrusive. This one is small but its’ craftsmanship won’t let it go unnoticed. It’s got gorgeous walnut wood grain, egg and dart trim and original brass hardware. It would make a nice hall entry piece as it is only 40 inches in length and 18 inches deep.
Its’ interior could hold hats and scarves but is high enough to store everyday essentials like liquor and long-stemmed glassware.
And it’s on wheels which is very handy for us weaklings with a penchant for rearranging furniture with a partner who’s sick of doing it.
Antique Distressed Leather Dining Chairs at Glam Vintage & Moderne
If the look of distressed time-worn leather on quality antique walnut arm chairs appeals to you, look no further. Glam has six. Their colour (grey/green) and their authentic steel tack detailing work with today’s popular interior wall colours.
Some of Canada’s most influential derrieres have graced these chairs which were auctioned after an 80-year-old Toronto mens’ club closed. Dinner conversation would be truly inspirational if guests could hear the stories these seats could tell… though it might take someone like Tom Cruise to channel these chairs.
Mid-Century Chinoiserie End Tables at Glam Vintage & Moderne
Floating Chinoiserie End Table Top
Most of us look but we don’t investigate “beyond our noses”. We march around stores finding things at eye level and quite often miss the buried gems. Richard found this pair of mid-century chinoiserie end tables supporting a large mirror leaned against the wall in an antique store.
I’m looking at (or in) the mirror while he’s looking at the neglected pieces holding it up. Even if I had discovered them I think I might have dismissed them because the gold foil treatment was spackled across the top reminiscent of a bad 1980’s sponge paint technique. Richard left the trim in gorgeous gold foil and painted out the surface in gloss black lacquer.
And here I thought there was no saving them.
(That’s ok because Deepak Chopra is teaching me to focus on the things I’m good at)
Antique Secretary Desk/Bookcase at Glam Vintage & Moderne
In my quest to be politically correct I thought it best to rename this piece. This desk/bookcase would probably have objected if I’d called it a “secretary”. Can you imagine that one day parents who own one will be explaining what a secretary is? The word will be gone from the English language like “doth” . Oh yes there will still be the “Secretary of State” as I’m sure even Hillary wouldn’t change to “admin assistant to the President”. This “secretary” is especially intriguing as all its’ previous (American) owners have left their signatures on the sides of the little pull-out drawers.
