New Toss Cushions at Glam
Bling Toss at Glam Vintage & Moderne
I “said” I was looking for a bed for my infrequent out-of-town guest, but honestly I got it for the “room”. It’s an office which just looked too officious…all books, manuals, computers, cords and supplies. Despite my efforts to soften its edge with art, area rug and a couple of lamps it was just plain ugly.
Canadian upholstery maker, Statum Designs makes this cleanly styled comfy daybed that’s heaven to curl up on. I bought it in the neutral fabric because a) I move a lot and more importantly b) I would get to accessorize it with lots of new toss cushions from Glam.
This is some sort of sickness…next thing you know I’m not going to be happy with the area rug.
Sectional Sofa by Statum Design available at Glam Vintage & Moderne
Retailers deal with open concept spaces all the time, but this architecture is relatively new to most homeowners. Take a page from a store’s decor book and create several vignettes within the open concept space to create interest and warmth. Dividing the space with dressing screens or shelving can close the space and defeat the look. A sectional like this fabulous contemporary piece from Canadian manufacturer Statum Designs along with an area rug can define the “living room” portion of your open room.
One of the perks of this configuration is the close proximity to the kitchen area for munchie replenishment. The fabric chosen for this sectional is Bella Granite which feels like buttery suede but wears like the polyester it is…perfect for dropping food and drinks on.
“Accessorizing” with bold colour is on trend. A neutral sofa is enlivened with loud toss cushions and often placed across from a pair of chairs in patterned fabrics picking up on the wall colour and sofa. Most of us (even the meek like moi) “got” this lesson and are practicing this at home.
Chandra Area Rug available at Glam Vintage & Moderne
For those of us who want to step outside the box and get a little more daring with our home decor …add a modern graphic or floral area rug for that splash to instantly update your look.
The truly courageous will go one step further and purchase the ultimate audacious accessory… a large original canvas with highly saturated hues of paint including bright pinks, blues and yellows.
I dare ya.
OK I double dare ya.

Jane’s Lindsay Chair in Grey Corduroy at Glam Vintage & Moderne
When fall is in the air the first item out of the fall/winter wardrobe is my “cords”. I always have a pair or two of pinwheel corduroys around because their texture provides light weight warmth and their look is casual and comfy. My mom always bought them for me because they “wear like iron”.
No wonder Jane Lockhart includes various shades of corduroy in the fabric palettes she carefully selected for her new line of furniture produced by Toronto manufacturer Statum Designs.

I call it “heaven”
Find out for yourself…she and a selection of her furniture will be at Glam on Oct. 6th from 2 to 4pm.

Sunglow Blinds at Glam Vintage & Moderne
Interior design and retailing can be gratifying when you buy the right products from reputable suppliers . Turns out the old axiom ” You get what you pay for” is true. “Quality doesn’t come cheap” and when you “buy something for nothing” that’s usually what you have after a few uses. When I was 25 I bought a pair of club chairs in a neutral ivory silk from a “high-end” furniture store…25 years later I sold them with the house…at least THEY looked exactly the same. Buying from respectable Canadian and international suppliers initially costs more but you save on maintenance and premature replacement. Happy customers make Richard happy so he buys his upholstered goods from Toronto’s Statum Designs and Silva.

His blinds come from Toronto manufacturer Sunglow and Chakra carpets are made in India with wool from New Zealand. The provenance of his vintage finds may not be known but he makes sure you know where the kinks are. After all, “love means never having to say you’re sorry”.
